What is your identity? Woman looking in mirror.

Your Are the Designer of Your Destiny

Are you conscious of your identity, present and future? Do you spend more time identifying with the story of your past or the story of your future? Which story do you want to live in..? To become?

“The ultimate question of man is not ‘who we are’, but ‘who we could be’.”

Who’s Your Hero?

“Do you have a hero? Someone you admire and look up to? Generally, when we admire another in the present it is an indication of our future and the self. We admire that which we are to become. That’s the future you, in some sense, manifesting itself in the present, saying, ‘Here’s where you could go.’”

Make Your Future Self Proud

Act worthy of your future self. Claim her by the choices you make and the actions you take today. And again tomorrow.

Stake Your Claim in Your Future

There’s a difference in these two thoughts.

“I do art.”

vs.

“I am an artist.”

When we use the term “artist”, that includes anyone crafting anything, including writers as artists of words and entrepreneurs as artists of industry.

But beyond that, you can also invoke words and thoughts that help you laser in on your specific medium of artistry.

“The only person you are destined to become is the person you decide to be.”
~Ralph Waldo Emerson, philosopher, transcendentalist, writer, poet, 1803-1882

What is Your Identity?

Writers

“I write some.”

Vs.

“I am a writer.”

Singers

“I like to sing.”

Vs.

“I am a singer.”

Entrepreneurs

“I have a business.”

Vs.

“I am an entrepreneur and business owner.”

Why Visioning is a Big Deal

One of the reasons I write a lot about visioning, goals and future self is because that’s how we get to where we want to go. If we can’t imagine it or think it, we can’t plan it. If we can’t plan it we can’t get there.

However, we don’t have to know it all to start. We can embark with a sketch and a direction and refine it as we go, for it is ever in the journey that the way becomes more clear

Visualization is Thinking Yourself Into Your Future

As we begin thinking ourselves into our future aspirations… we begin to change our words to affirm our evolving identity. Setting goals and working them daily, helps.

This isn’t New Age mumbo jumbo. Visioning is real and proven and utilized by professional athletes, artists and entrepreneurs on a regular basis. Meditation too. Meditation and visioning is quietly used by high level Wall Street traders as well for the calm and clarity it helps maintain, even in high stress environments.

Consider your future self… you a year from now, or five years from now, living in accordance with where you’re headed. If your current direction doesn’t align with your future aspiration, there’s time to reframe and course correct. Otherwise, we cannot arrive if we do not identify the destination and then secure our way there through daily efforts.

If your current mindset isn’t supporting your aspirations, it may be time to up your mind game.

It’s not such a big deal, one goal at a time, one day at a time.

The thing that takes your identity to the next level is to vision and do, vision and do, vision and do.

Envision your intention. Write your goals. Get it done.

Empowering Message – Aubrey Marcus Podcast With Jordan Peterson

“Your hero, psychologically speaking, is that figure which represents a potential stage of development for you, and you’ll find your hero because you’ll admire something or someone. And why is that? That’s the future you manifesting itself in the present, saying ‘here’s where you could go’.
