What is the legacy of a day..? Create daily and you are building the Taj Mahal of your life’s legacy, one stone… one day at a time. It is nothing… and it is everything.
To miss a day is nothing. It is not the missing that matters. It is the habit of creating daily that makes all the difference.

Progress is simple. If you do the work daily, the work gets done.

Create Imperfectly… Daily
Create before it’s the perfect moment, the perfect idea, the perfect setting. Now. Daily. Create wherever you are. Creating daily beckons the creative muse. Creating daily places you in charge of the flow.
Advanced creators create the flow. They don’t wait for something so important to happen to them. But the more you create daily, the more you can create daily.
Ship before you’re ready… before it’s perfect. The perfectionist tendency is at the heart of all craftsman, however it can also become the procrastination of a tinkerer… a busy-ness that isn’t a business with strong results.
Creating daily places you in charge of the flow.

Iterate
When we pick up the pace, we increase our capacity.
~LeAura Alderson, iCreateDaily.com®
With each iteration you learn and grow. You can’t await perfection. Perfection is a blue moon that sometimes arrives on cloudy nights. Missed. Unseen.
Do not make the world wait for your offering. Do not make yourself wait to hear the praise… and the feedback. Create daily, create regularly, create so that you can improve and iterate more quickly.
Imagine…
Doing one painting a week for a year. That’s at least 52 opportunities to improve. A monthly novel or short story, is a dozen opportunities to improve and to publish!
When we pick up the pace, we increase our capacity.
Success is simple. The more we create the better we become at creating.

The Critics
Never fear the critics.
Okay, I know. Easier said than done. Far easier. But the critic’s voice is just one note out of tune that merely informs on what to tweak, should you choose to.
Feedback is a gift to unwrap that contains tools to put to use. Critics are like free business coaches. To take and implement valid feedback of your critics is to improve more quickly. Feedback also feeds you information on your audience and helps you get to know them better.
So practice detachment. It does get easier with practice. Place on your “learner’s mindset” and sit in the observer’s seat. Imagine it’s a critique of someone else’s work. See if there’s anything of benefit, and if so, employ it. If not, ignore it. Agree or disagree, mentally, then move on.
As Brené Brown says, you can ignore the critics who are not in the arena. ?
Eager students welcome feedback for it fosters faster growth.

When Feedback Hurts
If feedback hurts, chances are there’s a sore spot somewhere… perhaps something chafing at you from within. It could be merely a feeling of inadequacy that feels the need to be protective, so your defenses are raised. Perhaps it’s where you’ve been wearing away at yourself through self criticism and castigation. Or, perhaps there is truth to it that’s hard to face, for the truth can hurt.
If so, don’t judge yourself. Just do it. All the mental arguments and explanations and excuses take far more energy than just doing the thing you’re resisting.
If it the criticism doesn’t really bother you and rolls off your back like water on a duck, then it may be because you don’t care, you don’t agree, or, that it’s just not true for you. Only you can know and decide for yourself. Just be fearlessly honest, for in the end, it is always our own conscience and soul to which we must answer and with which we must make peace to be peaceful and joyful.
The best salve for being out of sorts with self is to do the thing you feel you should be doing but aren’t.
Turn Critiques into Craft
- Listen, learn and do what makes sense to do
- Ignore the rest
The more feedback you get, the better you get at taking what’s helpful and leaving the rest, and the faster you will hone your craft.
There’s a concept in entrepreneurial circles and in sales, that’s about seeking out rejection. The concept is that each ‘no’ gets you closer to a ‘yes’.
As you seek feedback, you learn and improve while becoming less concerned about what other people think and say. Then you can choose to ignore the critics, or improved based on their input. This also means that you get better at filtering the helpful input from the harmful input, and heeding only the helpful.
The best salve for rejection is to do the thing you feel you should be doing, but aren’t.

Or… this idea rephrased by community member Lynne Hundley as:
About criticism, the best thing to do is the thing I think I should be doing, but I’m not. Don’t judge myself. Just do it.
Turn it Around
The fastest way to turn it around… to soothe the wounds… to get unstuck… is to just dive into doing the work.
But if you just can’t get motivated in the moment, movement makes a difference. Turn on some music. One of the most effective things I do that changes my mood in an instant, is to turn on some foot-stomping, booty-shaking, belt-it-out music. And then to dance like nobody’s watching.
To invoke dynamic creativity put on some powerful, energizing music. Music that demands movement in response speaks to every cell in your body. So jump in and dance—or sing—your art out!
Etch your legacy in the ether of existence one day at a time.
