My high school history teacher’s advice to the boys in the classroom was the first time I heard this quote: Persistence wears down resistance.
While my high school teacher was giving dating advice to the boys, there’s a universal truth to this quote for anything you wish to create. A universal truth is that success takes time and hard work. We all know that overnight success is not a thing.
Consistent persistence wears down resistance. It’s the only thing that ever does.

Persist Through Failure
The moment the public sees the breakthrough is the moment years of hard work reached its tipping point. Name any of your favorite creators, painters, writers, musicians, filmmakers; none of them awoke one day and suddenly “arrived.”
Sure, there are moments in time where chance or luck helps send you over that tipping point to success. But those moments are aptly described in this other famous quote:
“Chance favors only the prepared mind.”
~Louis Pasteur, French microbiologist, 1822-1895
Failure Today Means Stronger Tomorrow
I saw a search query titled: “Successful people who failed.” I don’t know all the names featured in the various articles of famous failures, but I can tell you this: The answer is “all of them“. In other words, all successful people have failed along the way to their success.
In the gym, the failure of a muscle to deliver one more repetition means that muscle is growing stronger. Failure today, means stronger tomorrow.
So if you’re struggling, and it feels like you’re failing, perhaps you’re right on track. Adjust, tweak and stay the course.
Every success story is built on the rubble of failures and the pain of struggle.

Persistence Wears Down Resistance
Success is in the day-in day-out actions done consistently over time. Success comes from years of grit, determination, effort, mentoring, learning, stumbling… and never giving up.
“You grow through consistency.”
~Gary Vaynerchuk, magnate, author, b.11/14/75
In It for the Long Haul
If you are committed to your art and your goals, this will not phase you for you understand that it’s a marathon, not a sprint. You know that you can’t but create. You’re going to be doing your work anyway. You can’t not. When you love what you do, then it’s the journey — that day in and day out doing of the work that matters most to you.
But if you can’t yet do what you love full time, you can always find a way to love what you do. And in your free time, prioritize fitting in doing the creative work you enjoy as a side hustle or a hobby.
Over time, the momentum of your consistency creates the friction needed for progress against the gravity of inertia.

One Day at a Time
There are times—perhaps even most of the time—when it will feel like you’re not moving forward, or at least not at the pace you envision. But growth and success compound.
Over time, the momentum of your consistency creates the friction needed for progress against the gravity of inertia. You pick up speed and witness the needle of your success accelerate. Opportunities will open up and find you, all because you’re doing the work of bringing your work into the world, daily.

The Day is the Way
This is the core reason for the iCreateDaily name. The recognition that it’s the daily effort that matters… that makes all the difference in the level of success you attain.
Daily creating becomes a habit that is the foundation for all else that you do and for constructing your brand and business. iCreateDaily is more than a brand, more than a movement, more than a podcast.
iCreateDaily is an affirmation for the creative spirit in everyone.
Success is not complicated. It’s not a mystery. Success is simply a daily habit.

The Stitches of Success
Daily focus through perpetual and consistent effort keeps that needle threaded. Stitching together the pieces of each day through daily creating is the only way to achieve your goals. Daily goals are like the pieces of a patchwork quilt. The weekly goals are like rows of pieces sewn together.
So how do we make a quilt? One stitch, one piece, one row at a time. If we keep going, we end up with a quilt… a finished body of work. Your success is inevitable if you keep on going. Fail, tweak and refine. That is how you grow. That is how you succeed.
Failure points the way to success.

Failure is the Fastest Way to Success
Failure in a day doesn’t make the whole thing unravel. In fact, failure is simply an adjustment. Failure reveals what doesn’t work and helps you get to what does. It’s a natural part of the process.
As children we heard it. As adults we tend to forget it: “If at first you don’t succeed. Try, try again.”
It is in the habit of consistent daily creation that you come alive and thrive.
