The happiness we seek is so often right in front of us… in the simple joys in the present moment. So when we read this message from one of our mentors, we had to share it with you.
This is a combination of an email and a Facebook post from successful entrepreneur, podcaster, investor, coach and mentor, Ryan Daniel Moran, ecom expert and founder of the Capitalism.com brand.
Both poignant and evocative… we thought you would love it too, so thanks to Ryan for his permission to share it with you.
Reflections on Worry
By Ryan Daniel Moran
Last night, I had a nightmare.
I dreamt that someone broke into my home, came up the stairs, and took my little girl.
I felt a hopeless panic that jolted me awake.
It took me several minutes to gather my bearings enough to get out of bed and walk to the next room.
There, I saw my daughter sleeping peacefully, unaware that I was even worried.
I kissed her forehead, whispered “I love you,” and crawled onto the couch by her bedroom.
It was a full moon last night, and I looked up at it and thought: “If anything happened to my little girl, I would give up anything to have her back….
“I’d give up my business…
“I’d give up my life…
“I’d give up vacation…
“Just to have her back.
“And there she is, sleeping peacefully. What else could I possibly want in this life?
So why do I worry about the little things?”
The Things that Make us Happy
It’s amazing how much energy we put toward worrying about dumb stuff, while the things that make us happy are sleeping peacefully in the other room.
I don’t go to Church anymore, but for a long time I thought that I would be a pastor.
If I were leading service today, I would read out of Matthew 6, where Jesus talks about worry.
“Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life…”
New International Version (NIV)
~Matthew 6:25
“Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?”
~Matthew 6:27
It’s not About the Worries
We spend so much time worrying about money.
We worry about fitting in.
We worry about not making rent, or losing the client or the raise.
We worry about other people getting ahead of us…
We worry about our health and our mortality…
And we chase things to help us worry less, and then we worry that we will lose those things too.
All the while, we overlook the child sleeping peacefully… the full moon, shining brightly, the beating of my own heart, and the fact that there is food in the refrigerator.
It is About the Joy of Each Moment
Those joyful moments… those things that bring true peace… that is what Jesus called “The Kingdom.”
It wasn’t a heaven beyond the stars… it was the joy of each moment.
Last night, I had a reminder to think about the kingdom – to appreciate what I have, right now.
Everything else is fleeting.
Seek the kingdom first. Appreciate what you have first.
Then, everything else will then be a bonus.
“‘The Kingdom’ isn’t a heaven beyond the stars… it is the joy of each moment.”

Life is Full
I saw a man and his daughter at the park this week. He had one hand on the swing and the other on his phone.
I used to be like that.
Afraid to miss an opportunity. Afraid to disappoint a client. Afraid to be present because I didn’t like what was going on.
I’ve now learned that life is full of beautiful, enriching moments along every journey… regardless of the journey.
When you tune into them, pursuing your goals becomes a joyous quest rather than a draining, empty grind.
I really appreciate that you’re reading this.
Sometimes it still shocks me that you do. 🙂
If we ever do business together, I will consider it a bonus. You already gave me a gift by allowing me to share my thoughts with you.
I hope you have a wonderful day.
