Approximately 8,100 people per month search the term: “What is the point of life?” Another 90,500 people per month search the term, “What is the meaning of life?”!!!
There are bound to be many, many more people who think about it purpose and life but never search it. Then there are those who never even think about it, let alone ask it.
How about you? Have you ever thought about it, asked it, or anguished over it, or is it a quick and ready answer for you?
How would you answer that question: “What is the point of life?”
If you are asking—or have ever pondered—that question, or this similar one: “What is the meaning of life?”, and even “What is my purpose?”, then you’re already ahead of most. You’re asking poignant questions and striving to discover more about the essence of life… the essentials for you and your purpose.
The person who asks deep questions is well on the way to find greater meaning in life. Pondering deep thoughts stretches and strengthens our mental capacity, conceptual intuition and intelligence.
Life is a journey of discovery, and it is in asking deep questions that we discover deeper answers that may have lain dormant forever, but for the inquiry that opened access to depths unmined.
To wonder what is the point of life will help you discover the meaning of life for you. Keep heading in the direction that inspires you most. There you will find clues, connection and purpose.
“Life is a journey of discovery and it is in asking deep questions that we discover deep answers.”

Digging the Depths
It is in digging that gems are found. Same thing for us.
We can’t expect to find the gems of our lives lying around waiting for us.
A rich life requires us to dig and explore for the jewels within.
Times of discovery are events that provide clues to the meaning of life for us. It could be hours spent creating that lead to greater awareness, or, it could be a flash in an instant of intuition. But such awakenings, whether sudden or gradual, are inevitably the result of hours of deep ponderings over time.
Such times are to heed and enjoy for the communion with self they provide.
Self reflection is a skill to cultivate and leads to greater self awareness. Spending hours getting to know yourself will have a positive impact on your mindset and your goals.
“Consider the face of a child in the delight of discovery. That is what life is moved to do… to discover.”

Discoveries on Purpose
The specifics of your purpose will be unique to you and your particular expression of that in the world. Psychologist, Abraham Maslow’s original six human needs pyramid has been summarized into the following six aspects.[1]https://www.pursuit-of-happiness.org/history-of-happiness/abraham-maslow/
We’ve added a seventh aspect to this list from our perspective.
6 Basic Human Needs List
- Safety – the need to be safe, certain and secure
- Variety – the need for change, adventure and excitement
- Significance – to matter; to be valid, important, useful
- Love – to love and be loved; to connect with others and ourselves
- Growth – to learn and grow, change and develop into greater potential
- Contribution– to help, give, and serve… to make a difference
~Adapted from psychologist, Abraham Maslow’s original six human needs
One more essential human need:
7. Spirituality – a connection to divinity, a divine creative intelligence… a magical, mystical, celestial wholeness. By whatever name you choose, spirituality is an enveloping other worldliness with the promise of a pure and purposeful realm of good.
So once all your basic needs are met, the expressive nuances your life takes is unique to you. Fulfillment of basic human needs leads to a stability from which to create more in your life.
So What is the Point of Life?
There are basic life experiences that inspire all humans. If you are lacking in any of these, that’s a good place to start toward imbuing greater meaning in your life.
Learning and Growth
The toddler must walk before he can run. So too must we establish that we can “walk” in the world of adults by stabilizing our life circumstances. Until then, that — establishing stability — is our primary purpose for that time of our life.
To walk is to take a step from a stable position and enter a state of imbalance as we balance on one foot on the way to the next step. So too our growth in life.
Once you’re in a steady rhythm of taking care of the basics of life, namely, a sense of security (safety) in the world, you’re then free to embark on adventures (variety). You’re also free to love and be loved. (Love/Connection).
Adventure is the next step that will lead to discoveries (variety and growth) that lead to greater connection (love) and capacity (significance). Your consciousness is expanding (growth, spirit) and that makes a positive difference in the world (significance; contribution).
Exploration, contribution, learning and growth lead to discoveries that reveal the work that matters to you.
“I had this misconception that you will work when you’re inspired. And now I know that that’s really far from the truth. You just work. You put the work in, and then inspiration comes.”
~Jessica Singerman, professional artist

The Desire for Connection
The natural growth from there is to seek to connect more with others (love), to develop yourself and your talents (growth) and to help inspire and aid others (contribution).
Lastly… we seek transcendence and mergence with something higher… something greater. We seek an expanded awareness and consciousness that helps it all make sense, (spirituality) and enrich the meaning of life for us, bringing greater peace and joy.
“The desire for connection permeates every atom of existence.”

How Many People…?
Think about it. How many people do you personally know that have these first six human needs down pat? Chances are, not so many. These basic human needs then, are the first point of life, and these don’t always come sequentially.
You could, for instance, be a carefree (or careless) single guy or gal, who unexpectedly becomes a parent. Now there is the pressure to become responsible and stable and to love another like no other. In this case, you could say that love came first. The love for the child motivated the parent to get the rest of it together.
To approach life with the awareness of these basic human needs as it applies to us, is to accelerate our ability to discover greater meaning in life. Eager pursuit of learning with an open and receptive mind for ongoing growth, is key.
LOVE IS A VERB
“Love is the purpose of creation.
~LeAura Alderson, writer, editor,
In creating, love becomes a verb.
Love is revealed through action.
Love is the purpose of our universe.
To create is to align.”

The Point of Life is Love
Ultimately, the highest human achievements have come from—and because of—love.
The love of parent for child, of server and served, of spouse to spouse, and the passion for art and craft as well as the love of creating.
Life is about becoming more through the expression of love and the steady cultivation of growth and contribution.
These three: love, growth and contribution, serve to instill a sense of spirituality… a sense of the sacredness of life.
If you feel far from that, the one thing that helps turn your mindset around faster than anything else is gratitude.
“The point of life is to expand love through conscious creation. To create is to love, and to love is to birth beauty into being.”

A Daily Affirmation to Prompt Growth in Love, Positivity and Adventure
Each Day a New Beginning*
“What if I begin each morning with a sense of adventure?
For after all, today has never been before.
I shall greet this morning brightly and bravely.
‘Good Morning, You magnificent Day!
What wonders shall we discover? What good shall we set in motion today?'”

The Point of Your Life
Okay… but how does that connect specifically with you and what you’re here to do? The bottom line point of each life on planet earth is to shine more brightly… to expand consciousness by pushing the boundaries of yourself. Your mission is to grow and become more… each according to himself/herself, not in comparison to anyone else.
“When our actions align with our aspirations, joy follows.”

Moving Toward the Point of Life
How to increase the light and love in your life? Move toward that which inspires you and away from that which does not.
Don’t worry about being behind or disconnected or lacking. Focus on the gains, not the gaps, and head in the direction of that which warms your heart and stokes your highest vision of yourself.
When we’re living in accordance with our highest aspirations, we know it, and nothing else can compare.
“It is the very pursuit of happiness that thwarts happiness.”
~Viktor Frankl, holocaust survivor, neurologist, psychiatrist, author, 1905-1997
How to be Happier?
Pursue inspiration through growth and contribution, for the above quote by Viktor Frankl is an oxymoronic truth.
ASK: “Does this choice… this that I’m thinking, doing, or planning, elevate or detract from greater love, awareness and inspiration?”
Do more of what enriches and elevates your life and less of what does not.
We become more confident, bold and energized, the more we are being who we think we should be, and doing what we feel in our hearts that we should be doing.
Pursue inspiration, then do something with that flame.
Now… please take 8 minutes for awe and encouragement from this amazing compilation of wisdom by another creator. I’ve never really been a Jim Carrey fan. I.e., his movies aren’t on my top 100 list, but this… this is a powerful and important message to tune into over and again.
“How will you serve the world? What do they need that your talent can provide? That’s all you have to figure out.”
~Jim Carrey, Actor, comedian, producer, musician, cartoonist, b.1/17/1962

And… until then, folks… if you’re not sure of the answer to that quote by Jim Carrey, then keep heading in the direction that inspires you most. There you will find clues, connection and purpose.
“Ultimately, we are not the avatars that we create. We are the light that shines through.”
~Jim Carrey, Actor, comedian, producer, musician, cartoonist, b.1/17/1962
What is your light that is shining through?

“The best and most loving and wholesome thing you can do for everyone in your life, is kind of extricate yourself from all your own madness… and grow.”
~Dr. Shefali Tsabary, PhD in Clinical Psychology, author, b.1972
What is the Point of Life if Everyone Dies?
If you’re feeling helpless and hopeless, you can turn that around by focusing on enjoying the present moment… the now. So yes, all life on earth ends as we know it. Your religious or philosophical belief, will guide your thoughts about the journey after this life.
A smile… laughter… a flower… a sunset… a hug. All these simple daily things available for free to all of us, make the journey of life the point. Living life fully in each day, come what may, will bring you and those around you greater joy.
For now while you’re here, the point is to focus on making it your best, for when you do, no matter the end of this journey, you will have enjoyed the time you had.
What is the point of life? To live, to love, to give, and to grow into the best version of ourselves. Therein lies peace, love and joy. That enriches each day and makes it all worthwhile.
The point of life is to become a point of light… the bright star that you are when you rise into your best vision for yourself.
