The alchemist Quotes, magician, fantasy, magic image

The Alchemist Quotes shared here are the result of a recent revisiting of this all time favorite novel by Paulo Coelho. I read the book YEARS ago, before Audible audiobook and smartphones. This time I listened to The Alchemist audiobook, expertly read by a favorite British actor, Jeremy Irons.

Paulo Coelho and his books are a rare combination of philosopher, spiritual teacher and seeker, masterful storyteller and talented award winning writer. Paulo’s talent at weaving profound life lessons into intriguing stories is legendary, and helps lead us toward our own transformative life alchemy.

Born in 1947 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Paulo Coelho bravely followed his heart to become a world renowned author of 30 books that have sold over 320 million copies in 170 countries.

More than an exceptional author, Coelho’s journey of the heart has created a philanthropic body of work that serves the world. Paulo Coelho has been a United Nations Messenger of Peace since 2007 where he encourages and facilitates intercultural dialogue with a focus on the needs of children. He is a member of the Brazilian Academy of Letters and the recipient of over 115 awards and honours as of this writing, including the Hans Christian Andersen Award, the Grinzane Cavour Book Award and the Chevalier de l’Ordre National de la Légion d’Honneur, to name a few.

Dreams and Purpose Quotes from The Alchemist

“When I have been truly searching for my treasure, every day has been luminous, because I’ve known that every hour was a part of the dream that I would find it. When I have been truly searching for my treasure I discovered things along the way that I never would have seen had I not had the courage to try things that seemed impossible [to achieve].”
~The shepherd boy in The Alchemist by Brazilian novelist Paulo Coelho, b.11/23/1951

“‘Everyone on earth has a treasure that awaits him,’ his heart said. ‘We—people’s hearts—seldom say much about those treasures because people no longer want to go in search of them.”
~Paulo Coelho, Brazilian novelist in The Alchemist, b.11/23/1951

“Before a dream is realized, the Soul of the World tests everything that was learned along the way. It does this not because it is evil, but so that we can, in addition to realizing our dreams, master the lessons we’ve learned as we’ve moved toward that dream. That’s the point at which most people give up. It’s the point at which — as we say in the language of the desert — ‘One dies of thirst just when the palm trees have appeared on the horizon.'”
