Autumn Poetry

AUTUMN SONG

Same trees, same birdsong,
Daylight fades, earlier now…
My leaves…dripping pink.

Won’t be long until
Coffee warms me on the porch,
Blanket ‘round my knees.

Turning of the year,
Sweetest season coming fast.
Cinnamon perfume.

By Lynda Suzanne Wright, artist, retired teacher, 2021

SUMMER GONE

Laughter and joyous shrieks
Have left the lake at peace
Softly lapping edges see only
The old or very young

School bells ring where laughter
Joyous screams have moved
Onto the school play yard
Recess the favorite still

Sunshine spills through covered windows
Cracks where eyes seek light
Tucked away in classroom chairs
Summer sun still clings

Suntanned faces renewed fr
Minds tug back to summer days
What I did this summer

~Sally Kirkpatrick, artist, writer, crafter

Seagulls squawk
for one more
stolen fry.

Autumn Quotes and Excerpts

October

A PASSAGE FROM ANNE OF GREEN GABLES

“Oh, Marilla,” she exclaimed one Saturday morning, coming dancing in with her arms full of gorgeous boughs, “I’m so glad I live in a world where there are Octobers. It would be terrible if we just skipped from September to November, wouldn’t it? Look at these maple branches. Don’t they give you a thrill?”

~L.M. Montgomery, Anne of Green Gables
